Overview

Combining mathematics, natural sciences and computing, the Engineering (Honours) degree is the foundation for a variety of specialised pathways. Whichever engineering discipline you choose, you will gain the knowledge and skills to pursue a successful career. You will have the opportunity to apply yourself to engineering design and enquiry projects, professional engineering practice, engineering and technical management, and to conduct research towards your thesis project.

The four-year program is offered in 18 engineering disciplines, including aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, renewable energy engineering, mining engineering, surveying, telecommunications engineering, bioinformatics engineering, chemical product engineering, petroleum engineering, mechanical and manufacturing engineering, photovoltaics and solar engineering, mechatronic engineering, computer engineering and software engineering.

A flexible first-year is offered for students who wish to study engineering but have not yet decided which specialisation to pursue.

How to apply

Applications for undergraduate study from domestic students (Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens) are processed by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

Visit the ‘Apply’ section of the UAC website and you can nominate up to five degrees in order of preference, with the first being your most desired degree and university.

On-time applications for admission usually close at the end of September each year for Term 1 admission. Late applications can be submitted, but a late fee will apply.

For study starting in Term 1, the majority of offers are made in December and January.

Visit the UAC website for key dates for admission outside of Term 1.

Alternative entry or pathways

The Faculty of Engineering Admission Scheme (FEAS) is a possible alternative admission pathway for the admission of domestic undergraduate students to UNSW Faculty of Engineering degree programs (including the BSc Computer Science and the BSc Food Science (Hons), who do not meet the published Guaranteed Entry selection rank requirement of 93.00. Visit the FEAS page for more info.
